The drama of hate-politics and regionalism has been played on our T.V screens for the last few weeks now. Mumbai witnessed a near shut down fearing trouble. The Mumbai Police force has a near-sleepless festival of light with all the terror plaguing the country and now all this politics.

A lot of my friends, family and acquaintances have disagreed with his view, some say he should be arrested and kept in Jail. I disagree with all of them.

But well here’s my view on the whole episode, on the politics and the question of sons of the soil.

Mumbai is what it is due to its cosmopolitan nature, its one place in India where you can meet all kinds of people, people from every continent. For example at my workplace my CEO is a American, my direct head is a Goan, my marketing person is a north Indian, and our Chairman is a Punjabi !

Where else in India would you find such diversity?

But the difference is this, south Indians have made somewhat built this city, they have started restaurants that cater low cost and hygienic food. A udipi restaurant is your best bet in Mumbai if your looking for clean and great tasting food.

The  Gujarati’s have made Mumbai the Financial capital, its their acumen thru which our stock exchange is one of the leading in the world.

The Parsee’s have literally built this city, the seven islands were joined to make this city with funding from Parsee philanthropist’s funding. Parsee’s built numerous hospital’s, schools, and residential complexes though the latter is reserved for their community.

The Parsee’s gave India and more specially Mumbai a world class Centre for Performing Arts ! Where else in India do you find such a  magnificient and well built centre that’s par with World Standards?

I can go on about the Parsee’s.

Then lets talk about the Punjabi’s. They are kind, large hearted and have again given the city educational institutes, built companies like Ranbaxy and made Mumbai thier home without disturbing the social fabric instead gelling in with it. And to this Punjab is the actual north Indian state.

But the Bihari’s and the UPite’s, what do they give the city?

They work in Mumbai but almost all thier salary is sent back to thier village, they live in squalour and make Mumbai a breeding ground for diseases.Look at most of Mumbai’s gangster’s for example Abu Salem, all from UP.

They use Mumbai as a Whore, milking her for all its worth but not paying any attention to the city! UP and Bihar are some of India’s most backward states. Thier cities would look like distant suburbs of Mumbai.

These people come in and take up some of the prized jobs that should be reserved for Maharastrians.

Take the railways for instance, most of Mumbai’s Ticket-checkers, clerks, railway police, guards are from UP. These jobs are rarely given to Maharastrians. And I can bet big that Maharastrians would love to work here.

Since Independence India’s States were formed on the Basis of the Local Languages. Logical.
Since 1976, The employment criteria of the Central Recruitment Board was divided into
zones as per the General People of India. This division was based on the Local Language of the States.

Zone-A        Bihar, Haryana, HP, MP, Rajasthan, UP, Andaman, Delhi formed the Hindi Speaking Zone.

Zone-B        Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Punjab & Chandigad, the Non Hindi Speaking Zone.

Zone-C        Southern India States like Kerala, Karnataka, etc. & North Eastern States like
Assam, Mizoram, Bengal etc.

The Central Employment Rule said that ‘All Exams for Employment’s in the respective Zones shall
be Held in the Respective States Only.’ So that the Local People may get the Jobs in their Home Town.
Very Logical. For 30 Years everything was going Fine.

But since 1987, there was a Minor Change in the Rule 9 Part 9.2.2, for Zone -B Jobs. And this was made a Rule since 1988. This change was that ‘As an optional Language of employment, People of Zone-A
can Apply for Jobs in Zone-B.’ This opened up doors of Employment for All Zone-A aspirants in Zone-B areas.

But with this Clause there was a Sub-Clause, stating ‘ The Notice of Jobs in Zone-B areas for Zone-A
aspirants, May be given in Zone-A Areas only.’ Because of this, Recruitment Notices for Jobs in Maharashtra, etc.
are Displayed Only in states like UP, Bihar, Rajasthan, etc. But these Notices are Seldom displayed in Newspapers
of Maharashtra, etc.

So this time, for the 3000 Railway Posts in Maharashtra, 12000 Aspirants came from Zone-A areas. The Result of this is that, the Unemployed of Maharashtra is Remaining Unemployed.

For the last few years  people like Nitish Kumar, Ram vilas Paswan and Lalu Prasad have become railway ministers. Notice all Bihari’s !

This is my personal opinion, if you think I am wrong anywhere do leave a comment I truly feel Raj is right, and his politic ideology will find a large base in Mumbai and Maharastra.

  1. What is wrong with you?!
Seriously, the UPs and Biharis provide drive the public transport system here!
    I think 75% of the auto/taxi drivers are UP-ites.
You think it’s not of any ‘worth’ what they provide to the common man who can’t afford luxurious four wheelers?
& I don’t think any random guy has the right to beat up people because of what state they come from.
Fuck, if they’re paying their taxes & EARNED their job/position.. no idiot like Raj has the right to get them beaten up.
    I mean wtf?!
    What next?
He’s going to get students who in our very own colleges beaten up? Because of what language they speak at home?
He’s just going to end up separating Maharashtrians from the rest of India. Which is highly ironic but equally true.

  2. Well if u cant afford a four wheeler, its hard for me to understand how you can afford to travel by cab?
    Try the BEST. Its maharastrian.
    Taxi drivers dont pay taxes.
besides if we did break up, states like UP and Bihar would be fucked considering that our state provides up to 70 % of the indian income.

  3. Are you saying that a college student/ employee living in the suburbs should travel by a car around town?
& why not stop cabs & autos altogether when there is so much of hate towards people who drive them & how they spend their income.
Seriously, I think people who are good at a certain job get it.
Would it be fair if tomorrow Indians from all over the world get kicked out because they send their salaries to their home country?
And THAT is actually a matter of two different countries..
Here’s three states fighting amongst themselves.
I don’t support U.P or Bihar.. but I sure as heck condemn the way Raj tackled what he thinks is an ‘issue’..
If Maharashtrians were so capable/talented, they wouldn’t have let people from other states come and take up their work. How come other states don’t have this problem?

  4. To counter your points

A college student living in the burb’s can choose to travel by BEST buses, railway trains. Are Taxi’s the only means of transport?

You say those UP fellow’s are good at their job? How many times has it happened that you have had to ask 5 driver’s before one of them taking you?

How many times has it occurred that they took you around the city for a ride and stated they don’t know Mumbai road’s?

    I wouldn’t call such a person a good driver.

About Indians in other countries, well have you noticed how they speak the language of the nation they are in? Pay taxes, NEVER spit on the roads?
Even in America a company has to show that they cannot find a American citizen not possessing the qualifications enough hence the need to absorb a foreign national.
In the UK and other European nations they first employ people from their own state, if they cant find a good employee then the EU. Only then they look to other countries.

Most of these taxi driver’s and other fellow’s are the main culprit’s Mumbai is so dirty, they spit, pee and act as if Mumbai is their backyard.

The reason we allow them, they are willing to work for cheap.

  5. & i think taxis are around for a reason, if nobody needs/ can afford them.. they why are they around anyway? :)

‘The reason we allow them, they are willing to work for cheap.’ — That’s a tad hypocritical isn’t it? You get cheap labour. You get your work done. Then you beat them up for where they come from?

& lol, are you saying that not a single maharashtrian spits and pees on the road? it’s a national issue. not like certain north indians are conspiring against maharashtra and how to make it dirty..

even literate people are guilty or dirtying the city.. then who are we to blame those who don’t even understand the importance/need of hygiene ..
shouldn’t people of the government such as mr. raj thackrey do something about such issues rather than send his ‘gundaas’ and get people beaten up?

tactics adopted by him are a slap on the face of democracy and everything that it stands for..

  6. Firstly spell Mr. Thackeray’s name correctly.

The only way to solve such issues, send them back. They are dumb they only understand such tactics.

Besides if you have seen a certain film called ” A Wednesday” you would know, if we need to remove pests we dont see the tactics we see the end result.

  7. It’s a movie. It’s drama. It’s exaggerated.
It might look all heroic or exciting to see a ‘common man’ given so much power, but that’s the reason the idea appeals to the mind in the first place.
    I don’t think it’s realistic and I don’t think it’s right.
If you’re the ‘the ends justify the means’ kind of person, then too bad.
You’ve got to remember that we have a fucking constitution that was written for a reason.
We have freedom of speech but that doesn’t mean you instigate people and get them to fight with one another.
What’s the difference between militants fighting in the name of ‘jihad’ and these people of Raj Thackeray doing the same in the name of Maharashtra.
    It’s so lame.
If they care so much about Mumbai.. why the fuck did they destroy property?
    BEST buses are maharashtrian no?
    Then why were they burned?
In the end, it’s not even so much about Maharashtra as it is about power and politics.

  8. To you it may seem foolish. Maybe cause you sympathize with the North Indians and Taxi Drivers.

Talk about the Railways, Govt Jobs what about that??

Also the BEST buses damaged were caused by the Samajwadi and other north Indian party workers whose leaders come to Mumbai to hold their rallies rather than in their own state.

As Udhav Thackeray rightly pointed out, if they were so worried about their people and concerned their state wouldnt be in shambles like it is.

But I still think raj thackeray’s entire premise is a political stunt. I could shoot your argument full of holes and to pieces very easily (which is NOT to say that i support biharis either) but I wouldn’t simply because I choose not to, as you’re entitled to your viewpoint.

I think one more ANTI-INDIAN is in the making? You seem to be in this dirty politics. Now a days nobody is talking of ‘I AM INDIAN” but only talks ‘I am Bihari, UP, Kashmiri, Bengali, Gujarathi, Marathi, Madrasi. All these are forgetting that they are in India. Of course for all these evils, our politicians are to be blamed. And to encourage them they get the support of some like you.

  9. I don’t sympathise with anyone.
Like I mentioned earlier, I am not pro-North Indians.
I am just vehemently anti-Raj Thakeray and anything-everything that he stands for.
That guy deserves to be shot in the head.

  10. P.S. BEST buses WERE wrecked by raj’s men. The buses destroyed by Biharis/UPites were the ones coming into their state.

P.P.S. It makes me sick to be arguing with someone who defending a murderer. What next? Manu Sharma had the right reasons to kill Jessica Lal?

  11. Well you have the right to your own opinion.

He is not a murdered. Manu Sharma was a cold blooded killer. I dont defend him.
Read Raj’s letter, he is not a murdered, nor have his men killed anybody. When people protest, anger swells, and property is destroyed.

  12. Listen, when his people beat up the students and wrecked property lives {were} lost.
That makes him no different from any cold blooded murderer.
That sad reality of the situation is that no one is doing anything about this.

  13. Long Live Raj

    Death to Laloo!
